Far Gone And Out

I’m constantly being told we have too much of a commanding lead to throw away the title by friends and pundits alike. In 1985 we won the first ten games of the season and fell away in a bad way after Christmas and finished 4th as Liverpool did their only League and Cup double. In 1992 after Man City hammered Leeds 4 Nil we were ahead on points with games in hand and of course nobody needs reminding about 1997/8 or last season. Yes 15 points is the sort of lead one would have bitten your hand of at start of any league season, but with eight league games to play and our form far from convincing I for one will not be taking anything for granted, especially after witnessing the aforementioned campaigns.

DARKLANDS

Part of me was gutted we got so far in FA Cup and went out with such a whimper and another part thinks maybe better to lose to Chelsea away than City in the Semi like 2011. I was minus 3 when united last won the title before Fergie took over our club and 23 when I first saw us win it. For that reason winning the League Championship is and will always be the no 1 on my wish list each August when the season starts. Cups are great but the title as my late father used to tell me every season is what proves who the best team in the land are. When I was growing up we often got the better of Liverpool in our encounters but more often than not it was them who won the title as we thought about what might have been.

APRIL SKIES

Our destiny is very much in our own hands no matter how nervy we are all thinking. Hopefully a resurgent United will regroup and beat City on Monday and follow it up with wins at Stoke and West Ham, if so I think we will just about be home and dry. What we need is all the fans to banish their nerves and roar the lads on starting Monday night and carry the team over the line. Winning any title is memorable and this would be no different.

I’m an ordinary Manchester United fan who loves singing (usually badly) and having a few drinks with mates at United games home and away. I never personally label myself as anything else and get embarrassed (ok maybe not) when I get labelled a ‘super fan’ etc.
